These terms cover how Boom Pittsburgh is read, quoted and submitted to. They apply to the site, the weekly newsletter and any story you send us. If something here does not match how you intend to use the site, write to us before you do.
Boom Pittsburgh is an independent editorial publication. We run interviews, neighborhood guides, photo essays and reader letters about Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Nothing here is sponsored coverage unless a piece says so at the top, and no business pays for a place in a guide or a coffee map.
You are welcome to read, link to and quote our stories. Short excerpts with a credit and a link back to the original page are fine. Republishing a full article, a photo essay or a contributor's photographs on another site or in print requires written permission from us and, where relevant, from the photographer.
When you send a story pitch, a mailbag letter or photographs, you confirm the material is yours to share and that the details in it are accurate to the best of your knowledge. You keep the copyright. By sending it, you allow us to edit for length and clarity and to publish it on the site and in the newsletter. We may hold a piece for a later issue or decide not to run it, and we will tell you either way.
We check opening hours, transit notes and addresses before publishing, but small businesses change their schedules without telling anyone. Treat a listed time as a starting point and call ahead for a long trip. If you find a detail that is out of date, send it to us and we will correct the page and note the change.
The site is published as-is. We are not responsible for decisions you make after reading a guide, a route or an interview, including travel, spending or business choices. We are also not liable for interruptions to the site, broken links or content on pages we link to. Opinions in interviews and reader letters belong to the people who gave them, not to the publication.
We can decline or remove a submission, letter or comment that attacks a neighbor, names a private individual unfairly, or pushes material unrelated to the neighborhood story at hand. Repeated abuse ends the conversation. This applies to the mailbag, the newsletter replies and any thread we host.
We update this page when our columns, newsletter or submission process changes. The date at the bottom of the page tells you when it last happened. If a change affects how we handle your submitted work, we will say so in the newsletter as well.
