Start with the neighborhood archive to see what we have already covered, then pitch the gap. A piece about a corner store that closed, a church hall dinner, or a bus route that changed is more useful to us than a general "things to do" list. Include the street, the people you can reach, and roughly when you could file.
Yes, especially black-and-white work from the rivers, the inclines and the mill-adjacent blocks. Send a small set rather than a full archive, tell us where and when each frame was taken, and note whether the people in it agreed to be shown. We credit every photographer.
Contributors are Pittsburgh-based and working other jobs, so replies run about one to two weeks. If a story is tied to a date, a seasonal market or a one-night event, say so in the first line and we will try to move faster. Silence past three weeks usually means it is not a fit right now, not that it was bad.
The diaspora thread is written for exactly that. It covers transit, winter, renting in older housing stock and the small practical things people ask about after they arrive. It is not relocation advice or legal guidance, just what residents have told us. For anything formal, check our terms and reach out through contact.
Short excerpts with a link back are fine. Full reprints need a note from us first, since the writing and photos belong to the contributors who made them. If you run a community newsletter and want to share a weekend idea, just ask and we will usually say yes.
