This page explains what we collect when you read a neighborhood guide, sign up for the weekly newsletter or send a story pitch, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies to boompittsburgh.com and to the email we send from it. Last updated: 12 March 2025.
When you use a form, we receive the name, email address and any message you type, including story pitches, mailbag letters and corrections. Our hosting and analytics tools also log technical data such as browser type, device, approximate location by IP and the pages you open. Newsletter signups store your email and the date you subscribed.
We use cookies and similar storage to keep the site working, remember preferences and measure which pieces readers actually finish. Analytics events are aggregated and are not used to build advertising profiles. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may behave differently if you do.
Data is used to answer your message, publish reader submissions with your consent, send the newsletter you asked for, and understand which neighborhood guides and photo essays are worth continuing. We do not sell reader data, and we do not use submissions for anything beyond the editorial purpose you sent them for.
Limited service providers handle hosting, email delivery, form processing and analytics on our behalf, and they only see what is needed to run those tasks. Newsletter records stay until you unsubscribe. Pitch and mailbag correspondence is kept while a piece is in progress and for a reasonable period afterward, then deleted.
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, request corrections, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent for the newsletter and for publishing your submission at any time. Readers in the EU and UK have these rights under the GDPR, and California readers have comparable rights under the CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not run misleading claims, fake urgency, invented endorsements or unverified guarantees about results. Sponsorships and any paid placement are labeled as such, and ownership of this publication is stated plainly. If something on this page changes, the updated date at the top will change with it.
